Courses geared towards geriatric care providing specialized training of aging, clients will enable to fulfill the needs of the community towards the care of aged population. This basic care giver course will be able to train participants toward care of aging clients.

Basic Life Support

Basic life support (BLS) is an initial life-saving measure provided to the victims of life-threatening illnesses or injuries until they can be given further advanced medical care in the hospital setting. It can be provided by trained medical personnel, including emergency medical technicians, paramedics or laypersons who have received BLS training.This course will give a overview of promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED.

Objectives

  • The main objective of the training program is to provide the participants with essential skills/competencies and knowledge.
  • To recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR and relieve foreign body airway obstruction in a safe, timely and effective manner.
  • The participants will be equipped with sufficient theoretical, practical knowledge and competencies to qualify them to join the existing and future work force in the targeted industries.

20 Hour Lactation Management Course

It is mandatory for nursing staff working in public hospitals and some private hospitals to obtain a certificate in “20-Hour Lactation Management Course”. In addition, most public and private hospitals are now accredited as “Baby Friendly Hospitals”; therefore, obtaining certification in the “20-Hour Lactation Management Course” will be an extra credit for the nurses or staff working in the “Baby Friendly Hospitals”.

Objectives

  • To improve breastfeeding knowledge of professional nurses and midwives
  • To increase the graduates’ marketability in nursing profession by develop their self-confidence.

RCMP Family Medicine Clinical Skills Course

The Community Based Department, Faculty of Medicine, Universiti Kuala Lumpur Royal College of Medicine Perak (UniKL RCMP) has been organizing annually a course to assist primary care doctors in improving their clinical skills. Various clinical skills such as practical procedure, advanced communication, practice management, critical appraisal of evidence in medicine and telephone consultation are included in the course. Besides gaining updates on the latest & current scientific information, participants will also gain hands-on experience in performing the above skills.

Objectives

  • Understand the level of clinical skills required for safe independent primary care practice.
  • Acquire hands-on experience observing and attempting some mock clinical skills stations and receive feedback on their performance.
