Bachelor Of Chemical Engineering Technology (Hons) In Food

Overview

This programme applies the principles of chemical engineering and food chemistry to the large-scale processing of food. Foods must be nutritious, i.e., provide the essential nutrients for growth and health; they must be safe, free from dangerous micro-organisms and chemical contaminants; and, if they are to be consumed at all, they must be attractive in taste and appearance. In this programme, students learn how to adapt the unit operations of traditional chemical engineering to the specific requirements of food processing. The main objective of this programme is to make it possible for well-trained chemical engineers to work in the food industry, possibly one of the largest manufacturing industry in Malaysia s graduates of UniKL are marketable upon graduation.
The programme includes exposure to areas of food chemistry, food microbiology, food engineering, food safety, food processing and the nutritive value of food. It is also designed to provide depth and breadth in the relevant physical and biological sciences in which food science and technology is based.

Entry Requirements

  • Pass SPM or its equivalent with at least credits in THREE (3) subjects, including Mathematics and ONE (1) relevant science / technical / vocational subject AND a pass in English;
    OR
  • Pass Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) or its equivalent with a pass in Mathematics, English and ONE (1) relevant science / technical / vocational subject at the SPM level;
    OR
  • Recognised Certificate in Engineering / Engineering Technology or its equivalent;
    OR
  • Recognised related Vocational and Technical / Skills Certificate or its equivalent with ONE (1) year of relevant work experience or a minimum of ONE (1) semester of a bridging programme;
    OR
  • Pass O level or its equivalent with at least credits in THREE (3) subjects, including Mathematics and ONE (1) relevant science / technical / vocational subject AND a pass in English;
    OR
  • Pass Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) (MQF Level 3) qualification been recognized by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK), government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL Senate;
    OR
  • Pass Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) qualification been recognized by government of Malaysia and according to approval by UniKL Senate.

Note:
SVM is recognized as equivalent to 3 credit SPM for candidates who obtain:

  • Academic CGPA is equal to or greater than 2.00;
  • Vocational CGPA is equal to or greater than 2.67 and competent in all vocational modules;
  • Credit in Bahasa Melayu with SVM Code 1104 and;
  • Pass Sejarah for graduate cohort 2013 – 2016

Qualifications below 12 years of schooling (not less than 10 years of schooling) which is the exit qualification in the country of origin is and can be used as entry qualification for Level 4 MQF (Diploma); and

The qualification used must also be in compliance with the minimum entry requirements set by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.

Obtain other equivalent qualifications accredited by the Malaysian Government

For international students, TOEFL score 400 or IELTS 5.0 or equivalent.
