APEL process encourages individuals to continuously improve their knowledge, receive a formal qualification certificate that will secure them a better career advancement/ prospect without having to go through the conventional learning process.

What is APEL ?

APEL is a systematic process that involves the identification, documentation, assessment and accreditation of prior experiential learning. It can be used as a mechanism to recognise prior experiential learning for the purpose of programme entry requirements; awards of credits for courses within an accredited programme of study as well as the award towards a specific qualification under various Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) levels.

Why APEL ?

APEL provides opportunity for individuals with working experience, but lack of formal academic qualifications, to pursue their studies in Higher Education Institution (HEIs) as its assessment will include both formal education and experiential learning.

What is APEL.A

APEL.A recognise prior experiential learning for the purpose of UniKL’s programmes admission towards a specific qualification under various MQF levels. Certificate of APEL.A allows learners to embark in any accredited programmes of the HEIs.

APEL.A Assessment Centre (AAC)

UniKL is planning to become an APEL.A Assessment Centre (AAC) to support Lifelong Learning aspiration by Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) Malaysia. Lifelong learning culture will enable learners to fabricate better career growth through an improve academic qualification of the society. Nevertheless, APEL provides opportunity to multiple entry pathways to a higher qualifications improving quality of life. APEL certificate is the gateway for learners to apply an intended programme in UniKL with thorough checking on programmes governed with professional bodies. International learners are responsible to verify with their education authorities to ensure admission through APEL.A is recognised by their countries.

Method of Assessment

Aptitude Test

  • Bahasa Melayu
  • English Language
  • Numerical Literacy and General Knowledge
  • Critical Thinking and Digital Literacy

Portfolio

  • Evidence of prior experiential learning according to the format or rubric set by MQA.

Interview

  • Applies to applicants for APEL.A (T-7) Master

Research Intent

  • Proposal of the intended research topic

APEL.A Application Fee

Benefit of APEL.A

  • T-6: Access to Bachelor programmes without formal qualifications of SPM, PMR, STPM.
  • T-7: Access to Master programmes with STPM/Diploma/equivalent.
  • UniKL is offering 75 programmes with APEL.A entry for T-6 and 31 Master programmes entry for T-7.

APEL.A Certification Process

1. Applicant perform a self-assessment and register through the MQA Portal – (https://www2.mqa.gov.my/apel_a/)

2. Choose UniKL as APEL.A Assessment Centre

3. Submit the required details and documents (CV and certificate) via UniKL Portal

4. Successfully complete all assessments

5. Register for a UniKL Bachelor’s or Master’s programme.

What is APEL.C

APEL.C (Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Credit) is a mechanism that awards credits for prior experiential learning towards a specific course in an accredited program. It recognizes an individual’s relevant and specific prior learning experiences, both informal and non-formal, that are pertinent to the course. The credit award is based on the knowledge and skills acquired through these experiential learning opportunities, providing formal recognition and facilitating progression within the program of study.

Why APEL.C

1. Recognize learning acquired through work experience, life experiences, or informal training;

2. Reduce redundant learning for students;

3. Encourage admission of adult learners to higher education program; and

4. Reduce cost and time to complete study.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR APEL.C

APEL.C is available to all undergraduate and postgraduate learners with prior learning experience who are currently enrolled in programs at any of our campuses. The credit award is applicable only to courses within programs conducted via coursework and mixed modes.

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning for Qualifications (APEL.Q) offers a pathway to earn formal recognition for your prior learning experiences and skills, allowing you to obtain academic qualifications.
