In recognition to the significant role and outstanding contribution of Dr. Han in the area of education, politics and global environmental issues, it is with great pride and honour that Universiti Kuala Lumpur confers the Honorary Doctor of Management to Dr. Han Seung-Soo.
Dr. Han served as Prime Minister of Republic of Korea from 2008-2009. He is currently UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy on Disaster Risk Reduction and Water (2013-), Member of the UN Secretary-General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB) (2007-) and Founding Chair of High-Level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP) (2007-). He was Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Climate Change (2007- 2008), Member of the UN Secretary-General's High-Level Panel on Global Sustainability (GSP) (2010-2012), Founding Chair of Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) (2010-2012) and Chair of the 2009 OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris where the resolution of Declaration on Green Growth was unanimously adopted on 25 June 2009.
He was President of the 56th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (2001-2002), Korea's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade (2001-2002), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economy (1996-1997), Chief of Staff to the President (1994-1995), Korean Ambassador to the United States (1993-1994) and Minister of Trade and Industry (1988-1990). He was a three-term Member of Korean National Assembly (1988-1992, 1996-2004) directly elected by the people of his hometown of Chuncheon, Gangwon-do Province. Educated at Yonsei University (BA), Seoul National University (MPA) and the University of York, England (Ph.D.1968/D.Univ.1997), and prior to his entry into politics in 1988, he had a distinguished academic career as Professor of Economics at Seoul National University (1970-1988), taught economics and/or did research at the Universities of York (1965-1968), Cambridge (Emmanuel College) (1968-1970), Harvard (1985-1986) and Tokyo (1986-1987), and has honorary degrees from the Universities of York, Gangwon National, Yonsei and KAIST.
He is currently, among others, Senior Adviser at Kim & Chang Law Office, Independent Non-Executive Director of Standard Chartered plc, Temasek International Panel Emeritus Member, Club de Madrid and Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation Board Member, Vice-Chair of Zayed Future Energy Prize Jury, Co-Chair of International Finance Forum (China) and Executive Adviser to Gangwon Information & Multimedia Corporation. He was Chairman of the 2014 PyeongChang Winter Olympics Games Bid Committee.He was awarded, among many domestic and foreign decorations and prizes, the 6th European Communities Prize in 1971 (for his doctoral thesis on the Growth and Function of the European Budget), Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the United Nations in 2001 and an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) from HM Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom in 2004. He has many publications both in Korean and English, the most recent one being Beyond the Shadow of 9/11; A Year at the United Nations General Assembly (SAIS, Washington, DC, 2007).

In recognition of his crucial role and remarkable achievement in producing a new generation of national leaders as well as in contributing to human capital development and the nation building
process particularly through education, it is with great pride and honour that Universiti Kuala Lumpur confers the Honorary Doctor of Management to YBhg. Tan Sri Dato' Seri Utama Arshad Ayub.
Tan Sri Dato' Seri Utama Arshad Ayub was born in Muar, Johor on 15 November, 1928. He started his early education at Sekolah Melayu Parit Keruma, Muar, Johor before entering Muar Government English School. He then decided to pursue his study at University of Malaya, Singapore from 1949 to 1951. He continued his study with the Serdang Agriculture College from 1951 to 1954 and graduated with a Diploma in Agriculture, and the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, United Kingdom graduating with an Honours degree in Economics and Statistics in 1958. He began his career with the Rural Industrial Development Authority (RIDA) in 1951.
Tan Sri Arshad's involvement in education began in 1965 as the Principal of the MARA College of Business and Professional Studies. In 1967 Maktab MARA was transformed into Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM – now known as Universiti Teknologi MARA or UiTM) of which Tan Sri Arshad became its First Director serving from 1965 to 1975 and devoted much of his time to develop the education institution.
Tan Sri Arshad contributed significantly to the national education and development agenda particularly during post-independence which was the core in the administration of the late Prime Minister YABhg. Tun Abdul Razak Hussein. Following his time at ITM, Tan Sri Arshad joined the civil service up to the rank of Secretary General of three Ministries before he retired in 1983. These were the then Ministry of Primary Industries, Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Land and Regional Development. In addition, Tan Sri Arshad was also entrusted with responsibilities as Deputy Governor of Bank Negara, Malaysia's central bank. He also served as the Deputy Director General of the Economic Planning Unit. Tan Sri Arshad has certainly made a tremendous impact on business and education in Malaysia. Today, Tan Sri Arshad continues to serve the country as he sits on the board of several public agencies and private corporations, besides serving on the board of numerous non-profit and voluntary organisations. With broad Public Service experience, his current positions include the Chairman of the Board of Directors of University of Malaya as well as Pro Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), the Chancellor of INTI International University College and KPJ International University College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Governor of Kolej Tuanku Jaafar, Vice Chairman of Lembaga Bersekutu Pemegang Amanah Pengajian Tinggi Islam Malaysia and member of the Board of Bistari Johore Berhad. Most remembered for his influences in developing UiTM to greater and progressive heights, he has received numerous awards and accolades for his outstanding contributions in the field of education from both local and international institutions, bodies and organizations. Some of these awards include Honorary Doctor of Laws (Ll.D), Ohio University, Athens, U.S.A, Fellowship of the University College of Wales, Aberyswyth, Tun Abdul Razak National Award and Honorary Doctorate Degree (DUniv) by University of South Wales, United Kingdom just to name a few.
He was awarded ‘Anugerah Tokoh MARA' in the year 2000 for his innovative ideas that served as the impetus to the development of MARA's education system during its early establishment. He also received ‘Anugerah Mutiara Budi' from the Ministry of Finance for his great contribution to the Government and was awarded the prestigious ACCA Achievement Award in 2007 for his outstanding contribution for the development of professional accountancy in Malaysia. He also received the prestigious Merdeka Award 2013 for the category of Education and Community. He believes in education, where with successful education, "doors will open, offering opportunities for you to secure your place in the sun."
